I have recently been searching for a spa in the Cotswold's that is reasonably priced, but didn't have the commercial element to it like a lot of spa's do and I have found the perfect haven to get away from it all- Barnsley House Garden Spa.
The spa has been designed using local stone but with a modern twist in the form of external and internal glass walls. Although the spa doesn't have a swimming pool it does have a hydrotherapy pool that over looks field after field.
On arrival at the spa I was greeted by the most helpful lady who showed me to the changing room which was spotlessly clean and had the benefit of having underfloor heating. Already laid out for me was a dressing gown, a towel and slippers, within 5 minutes of entering the spa I knew this was going to be a spa with a difference!
I had a couple of hours until my Swedish massage so I used this time to explore the facilities; a steam room, a sauna, and an outside heated hydrotherapy pool before taking a hour to relax in the relaxation room. The relaxation room overlooked the courtyard and contained 4 reclining chairs with the most up to date magazines to read at my leisure.
There is no restaurant in the spa but there are menus in the relaxation room where you can order a variety of drinks and sandwiches which the staff will bring to you-this is at a extra cost. Alternatively there is a pub just outside the grounds of the hotel but once you get in the relaxation room there is no way you will want to venture anywhere else.
After a few hours of relaxation I was then taken to have my much needed Swedish Back Massage which I can honestly say was the best massage I have ever had. I was then shown to another relaxation room(I didn't think I could get any more relaxed) which was absolutely stunning.
My day then ended with complementary use of the aromatherapy products in the showers which were very tempting to purchase as they smelt so amazing but I don't think I would be able to call this a budget spa trip if I did this! Such a perfect day!
If you are looking for a spa with a boutique feel but at a budget price then I recommend Barnsley House Garden Spa- although the price is very reasonably this didn't reflect the quality of the spa and the exceptional service I received.
For this wonderful day I paid £40 for a 25 minute massage and £25 for use of the facilities all day- money well spent!
